$5,000 Goal

We, the Lopez community, respect the historical and ongoing relationship that the Coast Salish tribes have with the San Juan islands and the Salish Sea and welcome the opportunity to feast and celebrate the return of the canoes every year.

We are raising funds to provide a hearty Lopez welcome to the three Canoe Journeys that will be honoring us with visits in 2024.  We want the Tribal Canoe Families to continue to view Lopez as an honoring community that seeks to strengthen ties with local Tribes who have called this area home since time immemorial.

  • May 19th – 20th: The Gathering of the Eagles Canoe Journey
  • July 11th – 14th: The Coast Salish Youth Coalition Challenge Paddle and the Blue Heron Family Canoe Journey

Traditionally, the Lopez community welcomes the voyagers offering food, shelter, and gifts for elders and canoe skippers and pullers.

  • We are seeking to raise $5000 to support these hosting activities.
  • All donations are tax deductible due to the generous fiscal sponsorship of the Madrona Institute.
  • Thanks to a generous donor, the first $1000 will be matched 1:1!
  • We will use funds to purchase goods on Lopez, where possible
  • And big thanks to Lopez community members and businesses who have supported Canoe Family landings in the past!
