LCC Summer Scholarship Campaign

A huge thanks to everyone who has supported our Give Lopez campaign over the past two years--each year we have raised enough funds to cover tuition for all ECEAP students throughout the summer so that all current students had the option to stay in school for the critical summer months.  

This year, as our families face increasing financial stressors, we have more students than ever qualified for ECEAP, so our scholarships needs are even greater.  In addition, the majority of our families paying private tuition are also requesting partial scholarship support.  Please join us in helping meet the needs of our community’s young families!

LCC is able to provide free services to qualifying families during the school year through a special partnership with the San Juan County Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP.)  ECEAP supports children who have developmental or environmental risk factors that could affect school success; qualify for school district special education services; are in foster or kinship care; or are low-income.  Although LCC provides consistent childcare and preschool throughout the entire calendar year, ECEAP does receive enough state funding to cover the summer months.  This puts our ECEAP students and their families at a disadvantage, at risk of missing months of socialization and learning, during a period that is of especially critical importance for our pre-K students who are gearing up for the big transition to kindergarten.  A recent study found that summer learning gaps during the years before kindergarten lead to the greatest inequality in children’s school performance.  Research suggests that three to four consecutive summers of high-quality learning beginning in pre-kindergarten can get kids reading on grade level by third grade, making them four times more likely to graduate from high school.  Many of our families face the reality of having to work more in the summer, not less, as their jobs are highly dependent on our tourist season.  Being able to offer all of our families summer childcare helps create a consistent routine for them that is invaluable in providing a structure that helps them thrive. 

We are asking the Lopez community to help us fund this gap by providing scholarships to our ECEAP students so they can continue learning at LCC with their classmates throughout the summer.  Join us in helping these children thrive at LCC and beyond. 

-A gift of $45 will sponsor an LCC student with a ONE DAY scholarship.

-A gift of $229 will sponsor an LCC student with a ONE WEEK scholarship.

-A gift of $914 will sponsor an LCC student with a ONE MONTH scholarship.

-A gift of $1828 will sponsor an LCC student with a FULL SUMMER scholarship.
